Preceded by a lengthy introduction to the rise and progress of persecution, and its real and alleged causes - J. Gray, London, 1731 - First edition in English of the Historia Inquisitionis - xx11, 125, xv1, 260, [4 ], 319pp. - 25.2 x 21 x 6.2 cm.

Restored (calf?) leather binding, two volumes in one binding, partial title in red, nine plates, three of which are folding (also restored), with decorative or pictorial headpieces and initials. A moisture stain can be seen around the title page of volume 1, otherwise the book block is in very good condition.

Philipp van Limborch (June 19, 1633 – April 30, 1712), Dutch Remonstrant theologian, was born in Amsterdam. He received his education in Utrecht, in Leiden, in his native city, and finally at the University of Utrecht, where he started in 1652. In 1657 he became a Remonstrant minister in Gouda and in 1667 he was transferred to Amsterdam, where in the following year the office of professor of theology at the Remonstrant seminary was added to his pastoral duties. He was a friend of John Locke. He died in Amsterdam on April 30, 1712. 67565723
