St. Francis of Paola

Of excellent pictorial quality.
Non-coeval frame, from a later period.

The painting has some defects, a missing part at the top left, some drops of colour, some points to be restored (see photo)


Francesco di Paola, canonized in 1519, creator of numerous miracles so much that he was compared in life to San Francesco d'Assisi, was the inspiration of great masters including Murillo, Ribera, Preti and Tiepolo as well as of popular painters active in the modern era.
Francesco da Paola (Paola, March 27, 1416 - Castle of Plessis-lez-Tours, April 2, 1507) was an Italian religious, proclaimed a saint by Pope Leo X on May 1, 1519. A hermit, he founded the Order of Minims. 66991899
