Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. This seventeenth-century work of ours shows us how important it was for the nobles of the time to perpetuate their image over the centuries, as valiant fighters in the service of their sovereign. The nobleman subject of our painting is in fact portrayed with his battle armor, which can be guessed full of ornaments judging by the golden details that decorate the upper part of the cuirass. Two bows hang from the large white collar, while with the very successful expression of the face, the artist has masterfully captured the evident hard and strong-willed character of the subject from whose head long gray hair descends, while the face shows that typical mustache and goatee of the time. The portrait has the originality of possessing a rare and beautiful painted frame, easier to find in ancient prints or wall frescoes than in works on canvas. The painting measures cm. 69.5 x 56.5 total and is profiled by a thin wooden strip, it is relined, and has been cleaned and restored in a specialized laboratory. A certificate of lawful provenance from my collection is provided. ATTENTION: for shipments outside the U.E. shipping times will be longer and the unspecified customs fees will be paid by the buyer in the country of arrival. 67430121
