Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. Books have moisture damage, especially on the outside, but also at the top of the pages. Complete in terms of plates: 200 plates that are colored by hand. The images are still very nice: little browning. Contents part 2 is missing. Some pages damaged. The books come from a castle with a leaking roof.
The books contain a total of 200 hand-coloured lithographs of approximately 120 native (song) birds and 80 cage and garden birds. Each species depicted has a text written by Keulemans himself, which varies from two to thirteen pages. The text pages are not numbered. Keulemans' descriptions are particularly lively. Thijsse wrote about him that the tits slept in his drawing rolls. Keulemans came from Rotterdam. He was first an assistant at the National Museum of Natural History, and became one of the most famous illustrators of bird books. 67419575
