Reference study by Émile Gabory, archivist-paleographer graduated from the Ecole des Chartes, he was "archivist of the Vendée from 1905 to 1910, then of the Loire-Inférieure from 1911 to 1937. He is the author of numerous studies on the Vendée deemed to be impartial.

We find there, on the one hand, the account of an episode, too often passed over in silence, in the history of the Terror in Nantes - the arrest and the sending to Paris before the revolutionary tribunal of 132 suspects. On the other hand a set of considerations on the role of the Nantes bourgeoisie during the Revolution. The tragic odyssey of the 132 notables, federalists or not, arrested and sent to Paris by the Revolutionary Committee of Nantes, thus appears as the natural continuation, one could say the punishment, of the error committed by this opulent bourgeoisie by unleashing itself the storm in which it experienced such cruel trials.
