Burin engraving depicting a sculpture of Apollo seen from the front. The left arm rests on a small trunk from which a quiver hangs. The Roman statue, a copy of a Greek one, is now kept in the Vatican Museums.

AUTHOR

Giovanni Volpato (1735 – 1803), Italian engraver, draftsman and ceramist. Known for supervising the creation of numerous tables in the series "Ornaments of Raffaelo's Logge in the Vatican". Other activities will instead be those of sculptor and ceramist, famous for small creations of classical taste much sought after in the 18th century.

Raffaello Morghen (1758 - 1833), Italian engraver originally from Naples and a pupil of Volpato, taught woodcut for years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. He reproduced works by Raphael and Leonardo.

CONDITION REPORT

Sheet 50x36cm with wide margins and untrimmed, medium weight laid paper. Excellent conservation, only slight browning visible against the light.
