Seagull van Buuren (1902-1992),
is known for its seascapes and is regarded as the best 20th century marine painter - dune landscapes, but also painted still lifes. He went to the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam, where he was taught by Herman Mees, Johannes Gerardus Heijberg and Adriaan de la Rivière. Van Buuren painted in a naturalistic-realistic style.
