Superb full morocco binding, magnificent illustrations by Louis Dunki in two states including one on China.
Louis Dunki (1856-1915), is a Swiss painter and illustrator. He also maintained close relations with the publisher Édouard Pelletan, who entrusted him with the illustration of numerous books, including Servitude et grandeur militaire, the original edition of which dates from 1835.

In-8 (18x25.5 cm), 2 volumes: 286 pp 1f., 218 pp. 4ff, full morocco binding, spine ribbed, gilt edges, preserved spine and cover, morocco case with quadruple fillet framing, binding signed: G. Mercier from his father 1923. One of 350 numbered copies (197). Our copy among the first 100 copies on vellum contains a reprint on China of all the engravings. It was added at the end of volume 1 pages from 89 to 96, they are duplicated, it is not missing in the text.
