Unique globe from the German imperial era that reflects with great precision the political and geographical spectrum of the world on the eve of the convulsion that would hit a large part of the nations with the outbreak of World War I.

The sphere rests on a tripartite cast iron base, topped with an elegant decoration with an anthropomorphic relief and beast claws that evoke the feeling of power and conquest of space in the century of scientific explorations condensed in this piece. An arrow, also made of iron, crosses the globe, while its surface is faithfully lithographed in different shades of color and finely enameled with the geographical breviary in German.

Dietrich Reimer (1818-1899) was a famous Berlin publisher of geographical works. In 1845 he founded a book and map store in his hometown, taking charge of publishing a large part of the geographical works commissioned by his father, also a publisher. His marriage followed the same path as his profession and he married Henriette Hirzel whose brother Salomon Hirzel was also a great publisher of the time.

His professional life was closely linked to the cartographic and geographic publishing house, establishing important relationships with booksellers, publishers, and cartographers who combined their commitments to achieve in their editions the new geographical findings that approached the natural limits within the reach of the printing press and especially in the globes. that became popular during these decades. In 1891 for health reasons, Dietrich Reimer left his post until he died eight years later.

The publishing company gained great popularity as a result of the manufacture of terrestrial globes and celestial spheres in different languages and designs that made the Reimer publishing house one of the largest producers of terrestrial globes of the 19th century and the beginning of the following century.
