JOAN VILACASAS (Sabadell, 1920 - Barcelona, 2007), was a Catalan painter, engraver, ceramicist, writer and collector. Vilacasas is one of the key names of the Catalan informalist generation. In 1949 he set out on the road to Paris in search of his own language. Once there, he began a progressive change in his work, first heavily influenced by the impressionists and Picasso's cubism—from which a naive and profusely colorful figuration would derive—and then, around 1953, he produced his first abstract works.
He is considered one of the most outstanding Catalan painters of the abstraction of the 50s. As a painter, his works have been exhibited all over the world and for him any support was useful: a canvas, his Seat 600 car or the objects he found around the markets. 67532757
