Each figure is a work of art in itself. It is a scene full of symbolism. Jesus steps forward, under the watchful eye of a praying Mary and Joseph. He looks at the viewer and shows the Sacred Heart. The lily Joseph is holding refers to him being God's chosen man to Mary. Note the expressive facial expressions.
The Holy Family is celebrated on the Sunday after Christmas and many churches and orders are dedicated to it.
