Gerrit van 't Net was a painter, graphic artist and monumental artist. He was educated at the academy in Amsterdam (1932-'36) under the direction of Heinrich Campendonk. He also received lessons from, among others, Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita, J.H. Jurres and Willem van Leusden. After completing his studies, Van 't Net spent two years in Paris, where he undoubtedly became acquainted with the latest developments in the visual arts. Van 't Net made paintings (portraits, figure studies), stained glass objects, mosaics, murals and sculptures in metal. His style was multiform: he worked in figurative, abstract and surrealist styles. The nude, erotic themes and sexual symbolism are frequent in the work of this artist. Work by Van 't Net was shown at the Venice Biennale in 1952. He was a member of, among others, the Realists and the Independents in Amsterdam. 67596929
