These wooden ball trays / knott trays were made in the mid-19th century in the Netherlands and date from the Biedermeier period.

The dimensions of the trays are approx. 5-7 cm high and 8-9.5 cm in diameter, one has a chip on the top. See pictures.

Ball boxes or bun boxes fall under the sewing kit. When one had finished crocheting or knitting and the ball of cotton or wool was no longer needed, it was stored in the ball box or knott box so that it would not roll away.
