Vincent Poole's original style is characterized by British humor paired with elements of pop art, fashion and advertising. In shrill, luminous collages, he presents us with the dynamic lifestyle of London's trendy audience – often with a slight wink. Be it the super-styled city diva who roams the streets with the Great Dane or the stressed employee who just smokes a cigarette in the backyard: his collages are programmatic for the peculiarities of Londoners and can therefore also be understood as a demographic study of life in the British capital.
For his life-size silhouettes, the artist works with transparent foils that are printed with bold statements from the fashion and advertising industries, luxury brands and typical London emblems such as the underground sign. Layer after layer, he stacks the colored banners on top of and next to each other, fixes foil after foil with small pins on the canvas, in order to finally form the filigree profile views of his female protagonists. As simple as the process may appear, the overall effect is impressive: each of his figures makes a statement, glowing from within like an advertising poster! Exclusively for LUMAS, Vincent Poole is now also offering his collages as cut-outs, the logical continuation of the silhouette à la Henri Matisse. 64960729
