Artist biography:

-The artist was born and lived all his life in the Plaza de Vic, son of a sculptor of the religious imagery of Olotense. It is when painting plaster saints when he enters the painting of post-impressionism during the postwar period in Olot, where he trained with the painters Freixas Cortés and Pere Gusinyé. The first powerful moment of his artistic career is in 1947, when he is part of the group of artists and intellectuals Els 8, which through gatherings, theater and the avant-garde artistic-literary magazine Inquietud revitalizes the cultural wasteland of the 40s.

Sadurní's painting surpasses the bucolic landscape of the Plana de Vic to integrate the vigor and schematism of the renovators of Castilian landscape painting Godofredo Ortega Muñoz and Beniamin Palencia. The other turning point in his painting is the fascination for the landscape of Priorat since the 50s, when he married Virginia Viñes, a girl from the wine region.

His political life began with the appointment as provincial deputy for Culture in the Diputació de Barcelona at the time of Joan Antoni Samaranch. The highest point of his political life is as mayor of Vic between 1975 and 1979, during the transition, appointed by Martín Villa after his task as deputy mayor. In this turbulent time, the City Council laid the foundations of the General Hospital, the Institut del Teatre, the Escola de Mestres, embryo of the University of Vic, the polygon Les Malloles and the Camrodon round.

His multifaceted and full public activity also includes the presidency of the Unió Esportiva de Vic between 1965 and 1969, as well as the presidency of the Club Bàsquet Vic Vic. The enthusiasm and vitality of Sadurní are turned, after his link with politics, in the pictorial work, which revolves around recurring themes such as Lake Banyoles, scenes of the old town of Vic or the landscape of Priorat, which occupies a central position in his last decades.

Sadurní exhibits uninterruptedly not only in Vic, but also in the Ninell room, the Pinacoteca or the Spanish Galleries of Barcelona. His role in the cultural scene continues in his three children: the gallerist Antoni M., the painter Maria Josep and the bibliophile and doctor Francesc. /Editorial staff
