Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. This special double-sided baker's board "The long hunt", from the estate of my grandfather E.G. Stokvis (1880-1964), antique dealer in Hoorn (NH) and Veere (Zeeland).

The plank dates from the second half of the 19th century and probably comes from Zeeland. The same image of hunter, greyhound and hare can be seen on a house in Brouwershaven, Markt 28.

Some woodworm holes were closed by my grandfather with putty wax.

This plank is depicted on page 113 of the standard work on baker's planks by J.J. Schilstra, “Prints in Wood”

For an explanation of the long hunt see www.windhonden.nl/jacht.htm

On the other side are images of a medieval sailing ship and a man carrying something. 67413639
