Rare Lyon edition of the Homilies of Jean Chrysostome translated by Paul Antoine de Marsilly, pseudonym of Louis-Isaac Le Maistre de Sacy. The original edition of his translation dates from 1665.

John Chrysostom, born in Antioch between 344 and 3491, and died in 407 near Comana, was Archbishop of Constantinople and one of the fathers of the Greek Church.

An inset engraving following the table of the first volume.

Bound copy, contemporary full porphyry sheepskin. Back with ornate raised bands, fleurons and gilt boxes. Title and volume number. Casters on the cups.

Condition: worn head coverings with missing fragments. Solid volumes. Fresh interiors, rare foxing, title of volume 1 restored (mounted on tab), with tear in lower margin. and wetting. Light waterstain also on the 6 table leaves following the title. Missing the title page to volume 4. Reasonable condition.
