Prosper Mérimée (1803-1870) was a French writer, historian and archaeologist. Coming from a bourgeois and artistic background, Prosper Mérimée studied law before taking an interest in literature and publishing texts from 1825, in particular short stories, which made him known and earned him his election to the French Academy in 1844 67411039
