Follower of Giulio Cesare Procaccini (1574/ 1625)

the painting can be traced without any difficulty to the circle of Giulio Cesare Procaccini, one of the leading painters in Lombardy at the beginning of the seventeenth century.
The face of the Magdalene and the delicate dialogue with the angel on her right find a striking confirmation in the Santa Cecilia of the Pinacoteca di Brera, datable between 1620 and 1625, where the pose of the saint's neck is also similar, slightly reclined to the left, while the celestial messenger acts as a counterpoint on the opposite side.
A similar compositional solution, but in counterpart, also appears in the Penitent Magdalene at the Ambrosiana, dating back to around 1620.
