Kelderman was both a painter and a merchant. He lived in Amsterdam where he mainly produced Amsterdam cityscapes and seascapes in a small studio.

Kelderman was self-taught. He had a special talent for painting in the Impressionist style.

His works usually depicted cityscapes or flower still lifes, occasionally interspersed with boats at sea, a forest path or a winter. Paris was one of his favorite subjects.
