Rare edition given in Angers in 1837 with second mention of this story by Count Théodore de Quatrebarbes on the commune of Chanzeaux in the Angevin Vendée, where the Vendée uprising began in March 1793.

Extremely rare copy with the covers preserved.

Print on wove paper. Text embellished with woodcut letterpress ornaments.

Through the life of the inhabitants of Chanzeaux, the author depicts the walls of the time and reports in detail all the events in which the Chanzéens were involved: the insurrection, the battles of 1793, the Virée de Galerne, the Infernal Columns , the pacification, the war of 1815. The account of these events remains marked by high points, such as the great massacre of January 25, 1794 or the epic combat of the bell tower of Chanzeaux on April 9, 1795. In the end, the parish lost nearly half of its inhabitants, listed whose names appear at the end of the volume.
