Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. The codex (cors. 55 K 28), created between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century, known for the presence inside it of the so-called military code of Christopher Columbus, is kept in the Library of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and Corsiniana (facsimile edition and commentary 2007).

The notoriety and historical importance of the code, which features a rich decorative apparatus, are closely intertwined with the fame of the military code, signed by Christopher Columbus.

The tradition that the book of hours was given by Alexander VI to Christopher Columbus rests on the codicil. Since the eighteenth century, the text has been the subject of passionate controversies between historians of Colombian papers, who have accepted or disputed its authorship, therefore the facsimile edition of the codex is accompanied by in-depth palaeographic and liturgical studies and an accurate transcription and translation of the Latin text. 67333387
