Watson in his introduction emphasizes his goal of simplifying the botanical descriptions while maintaining ample cultural notes. It contributed to the growing hobby of amateur orchid growing.

Item Description
Scarce first edition copy. Illustrated with Coloured Plates, and a large number of Engravings, and fold-out plates. Published by L. Upcott Gill, London. 1890. Publishers’ original half leather brown, with dark brown and blue boards. The spine has six raised bands decorated in gilt, the titles are in gilt within second compartments. All page edges gilt.

Condition
Minor rubbing to board’s corners, and edges, and to head and tail of spine. Front cover is almost detached but still held by cords. Internally; the book is in very good condition indeed; No names or inscriptions. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at gutters. Text is fresh, and pages are clean. All colour plates and fold-outs are present and in very good condition (Please see pictures).
