The author Gustave Le Bon (1841 - 1931), is a French doctor, anthropologist, and sociologist, author of Man and Society.
In this work devoted to the Arab world he sets himself the ambitious task of embracing "in an overview the main manifestations of this civilization among the peoples where it reigned, reproducing all the wonders it left in Spain, in Africa, Egypt, Syria, Persia and India"
He discusses: history, Islam, institutions, mores and customs, arts and architecture.

Contemporary binding in brown half-shagreen. Beautiful grotesque decor with gilded irons adorning the back. Title and author. Golden head.
Condition: Tears in the head cover, ends of the jaws split (on 4 to 8 cm). Pierced leather on the second cover. Fresh interior, light foxing, angular wetting on pages 547 at end of volume. Yellowed guards. Reasonable condition.
