Alferio, Jacinto. Elche (Alicante, Spain), 1590 – ?, 1677. Doctor.
He practiced medicine in Alicante, later moving to the Italian city of Foggia. He published his works in Italy. A physician held on to scholastic Galenism, in his writings he devoted himself mainly to glossing and summarising the most orthodox Galenic doctrines, despite trying to offer the reader practical guidance. In addition to addressing the problem of stones and other kidney diseases, in his work he dealt with malarial fevers and epidemic diseases, such as plague, smallpox or measles.
