Student of L.Arentz in Zaandam. In addition to being a painter, he was also a wine merchant, alderman and photographer.
He mainly painted landscapes in a romantic style, often with horses, portraits and cityscapes.
Exhibitions in Amsterdam, Arnhem, The Hague.
Beautiful winter landscape with horse stable and farmer who harnesses the horses. This is a very early work by him and beautifully detailed painted on an oak panel around 1860, in this period people often did not sign.
He later painted the same subject on canvas in a larger format, 70x58 and canvas size 42x30cm (see last photos).
