First edition of this important work on the art of childbirth, composed by André Levet, midwife to the Dauphine of France.

André Levret (1703-1780), surgeon, acquired a great reputation thanks to his knowledge of women's diseases. He did
obstetrics courses which brought together a large number of students. This remarkable practitioner modified the forceps, invented the forceps with false germ to remove the afterbirth in the abortion of the first months, proposed concave scissors for the rescission of the uvula etc.

Copy preserved in contemporary binding, tawny sheepskin decorated on the back, complete with the folding sheet of instruments, countersigned by the author who also signed on the first page.

Condition: Lack of fragments on the caps, rubbing. Fresh interior, rare pitting, restoration in the margin of p. 39-40. Nice board. Good copy.
