Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. A very beautiful and rare so-called 'Hansje in the cellar', engraved glass. Presumably mid 18th century (c.a. 1750). Engraving with a pregnant woman.

The meaning of the inscription concerns a saying for this event. In the 17th and 18th century in the Netherlands it was a common gift to expectant mothers, or it was shown by expectant mothers to the visit to indicate without words that a child was on the way.

Glass and engraving are in beautiful condition (foot shows an older repair), see photos for your own impression. 67353285
