Since June 16, 2022, Frank Miller has officially entered the world of the most speculative artists after selling the original cover of his comic book The Dark Knight Returns #1 (1986) for over 2 million dollars at auction in New York.
The iconic cover to The Dark Knight Returns #1, by artist Frank Miller and colorist Lynn Varley, sold at auction for over $2 million, marking the most money ever paid for a piece of Batman original art. In fact, it bulldozed the previous record of $600,000 pretty thoroughly, and more than quadrupled the highest amount anyone had previously paid for a piece of Miller's art. In 2011, Heritage Auctions -- the same company that oversaw the Dark Knight Returns sale this month -- sold a page of original art from The Dark Knight Returns for almost $450,000.
