Lazarus Takawira is one of Zimbabwe's greatest sculptors. Sculpting the hard black serpentine stone, he lets emerge figures of women with mysterious faces, which sometimes recall the work of Modigliani.
The works of Lazarus are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, as well as in various public collections, including the Rodin Museum in Paris, the World Bank in New York, the Museum of Tervuren in Belgium.
