First English Language Edition. Translated from the German by Margaret T. Thomson and edited by J. Arthur Thomson. The book is richly illustrated with frontispiece portrait of the Author, and 82 plates and figures from original drawings. Published by Blackie and Son, Limited, London, c.1890. Publisher’s original red cloth boards with gilt design and lettering to upper board, and spine. Top page edge gilt.

Book Dimensions: 25.5 x 18.5 x 4.5 cm & Number of Pages: 592 including Notes and Index. (Weight over 1.7kg without packaging)

Condition
Firm and well bound book. Light wear to boards’ corners, and edges, with some fading spots on covers. Minor rubbing to head and tail of spine. Internally; the book is tidy and in good condition. A prize awarded label on inside front cover page. Foxing spots to some pages. Inner hinges are very good. All pages are tightly held at the gutter and edged in gilt. All illustrations are present and in good condition (Please see pictures).

Alfred Edmund Brehm
Brehm (1829–1884) was a well-known German naturalist and zoologist who travelled extensively in the 19th century. The original book was published in Germany in 1890 and tells things he saw, from the forests of Siberia, the plants growing in Asia to the wild animals of Central and East Africa wonderfully illustrated from drawings made by the author.
