How To Be More Sustainable

Every day, we make choices in our lives that affect the environment, the climate and wildlife. In recent years, the pressure to be conscious of these choices has increased. Due to growing an awareness around climate change and the damage that has already occurred to the environment and wildlife. Which is why we are here to tell you that sustainable choices don't need to be as complex and high-pressure as they sound. As a matter of fact, there are things that you can do on Preloved which are eco-friendly and will help the environment.

List your old items

Listing your old clothes, furniture, even old toys is making sustainable choices that help save the environment. Rather than have them cluttering up your home, they can be sold on. "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" We've heard it so many times by now, and yet it still rings true. You can reduce the amount of plastic in your home by selling things on and letting other people reuse them. It's a cycle, and the longer it goes on for, the longer these items will stay out of landfill.

With the current cost of living crisis, and January being such a painfully long month, selling items you no longer need can also be a quick way to make some extra cash! You can sell pretty much anything on Preloved, we have plenty of categories for you to choose from - we're confident you'll be able to sell your old items on our website! We even offer increased security for your own peace of mind, through Yoti and Trustap, to help deter unscrupulous users from our site.

Why not get started today? Make a sustainable choice and start listing your old items on Preloved.

Go plastic-free

Plastic never goes away. Today, billions of pounds of plastic makes up approximately 40% of the world's ocean surfaces, which is scary when you think about it. Even more so when you consider how much plastic you use in your day-to-day life. Once we become aware of our use, it only makes sense that we would want to reduce this, as it's clear how much damage it is doing to the ocean and subsequently, our wildlife and environment.

The easiest way to change how much plastic we contribute to the environment, is to go plastic free! If we don't contribute any plastic to landfill, then we have made an incredible sustainable choice to benefit our planet.

Shop second-hand

Another sustainable choice that is easily implemented is shopping second-hand, before anything else. Of course, there will be some purchases which you are unable to make second-hand for obvious reasons, but wherever we can, we should. The easiest one is clothes. Sustainable fashion has been on the rise for a number of years, young people know how important it is to buy second-hand fashion rather than shopping new every season, or when their wardrobe needs a refresh. Why not take a look at our Clothing category and see if you can grab yourself a bargain?

Another popular household item you can easily buy second-hand is kids toys. Especially when they are younger. Babies and toddlers are expensive - it only makes sense that we will want to cut corners somewhere at some point. Toys are an obvious choice, kids go through phases and change their mind on toys from month to month, it can be exhausting just to keep up with! Rather than buying new toys every time they have a new favourite character, have a browse on Preloved instead. Not only is it more cost-effective, but it means you are (maybe) keeping more plastic out of our landfills.

Drive less, go green

Reducing our carbon footprint is another sustainable choice which is easier to make - easier than it sounds, anyway. Walking, cycling, public transport are all viable options to get you from A to B, without directly contributing to global warming. If you have to use a car, it's important to keep on top of your car maintenance as it will improve fuel efficiency, which equals less harm to the environment.

Freeloved is a section of our website whereby you will find people giving things away for free! Not only that, but you can give things away for free yourself.
