Shop Autumn Winter Trends Second Hand

Fashion Week has been taking over since late August across the world. Currently taking place in Milan, wrapping up all of the 2023 S/S trends and predictions. With that in mind we were thinking about what they predicted for this years Autumn trends. Especially after these cold nights we have been having! All I want to do is tuck into my snuggly jumpers and cosy PJ's. So lets run through how to shop autumn winter trends second hand.

Autumn Winter 2022

It seems like this years over arching theme for Autumn is nostalgia. Following on from the past few years as we seem to constantly be taking inspiration from the 80s and 90s. With the post pandemic lifestyle reminding us of those simpler times, not just the fashion but the lifestyle. We noticed that we are striping back on the microtrends, with Y2K starting to take a back seat and 'clean girl' aesthetic. We are noticing that they are bringing back the subtle colours and a muted colour palette. Tailoring seems to be the way to bring out your louder flare this season.

When we are looking for a pop of colour pink seems to overarching, and when you are looking at incorporating colour think brighter. Think Euphoria and taking inspiration from their costume designs. With nods to the 90s party scene with mini skirts, sheer and mesh materials and indie sleaze. Now onto the obvious trends.

Sleek Hoods

Towards the end of winter we saw the snood coming back/balaclava hoods. This Autumn Winter they are nodding back to this trend. Think about wearing a monochrome look and getting one in a pop of colour, either if you choose a different neutral tone. You can elevate your look, keep your head warm and take it off and put it in your bag when you want to remove a layer.

Flared Leggings

The flared leg has been having a moment for a few years now, and last year the stirrups tried to make a comeback. This year we have combined the two. The more popular take on this trend is a split flare, meaning you can show off your shoes and wear every type! You can find flares easily when shopping second hand as they were a staple from the 80s onwards, just cut the split in yourself if you want it. If you are a bit shorter like myself, be sure to get them tailored to fit.

Micro Minis

Love it or hate it, they are coming back... Welcome back the mini skirt! These are much more of a going out/Instagramable trend. Slightly nodding to that of a microtrend, but don't be scared of them. Whilst they aren't for everyone they are great when looking for second hand steals as they really had their moment in the early noughties.

Green, Blue and Pink

Whilst we have mentioned a more muted tone and palette, when you're investing in colour these are your top three. While it was clear that certain tones of these colours were more favourable we must always remember to dress to our own colour palette. You want your outfits to compliment you, not drown you and that can happen with colours too. There is a new viral trend about a colour wheel which could be worth looking at. I apparently suit more autumn tones of colours... who knew!

The Chunky Boot Is Still Making It's Mark

Well, well worth the investment! Boots are always a win in my book. This year they are suggesting a few tweaks on the previous chunky boots. In my humble opinion, with trends like this I think go basic so they can last you years. Then if you have the spare cash look at some more exciting versions and expand your collection. As I mentioned above I'm on the shorter side so a basic chunky boot is exactly what I want. They are also always members selling some good Autumn Winter boots to get your hands on!

Go Oversized

When it comes to going bolder with your tailoring sizing up is by far the easiest way to do it. The oversized blazer has been about for a few seasons now and is a great cover up option, but is usually paired with a slimmer fit underneath. This year the Autumn Winter trend suggest two baggy one tighter, nodding to the suit trend that's still about go baggy trousers, jacket/coat and basic vest. Checking out the men's clothing section on Preloved can be an easy win when trying to size up. It also gives an effortless-y chic appearance.

Chunky Knits

Throughout summer we saw crochet knits making a big wave. This Autumn they are continuing to push their way through. The perfect time to combined your crafts and your fashion sense. The real take on the chunky knits is to get that special hand made look. Which means you either need to check out those second hand treasures online or start a new hobby to make them yourself. When you are looking check out earthy tones and organic materials. You want to be able to snuggle into them, not scratchy.
