In 1920, Fernando Pessoa and António Botto published three fascicles of a projected "Anthology of Modern Portuguese Poems". In November 1935, when Pessoa died, the work was not completed. It was Botto who finished it, selecting poems by José Régio, Augusto Pinto, Francisco Bugalho, João de Barros, Alfredo Guisado, Vitorino Nemésio, Carlos Queiroz, Miguel Torga, Álvaro de Campos, Alberto Caeiro and Ricardo Reis. Would anyone agree with the inclusion of heteronyms? We will never know. Botto Also included "Poema de Cinza" (1938), written in honor of his friend and published on the third anniversary of his death. "Anthology of Modern Portuguese Poems" was given to print in 1944. The present reprint has a historical interest that would be pleonastic to underline. Anthology of Modern Portuguese Poems by António Botto, Fernando Pessoa.
