Julien Green, born Julian Hartridge Green (1900 - 1998), was a French-speaking American writer, the first foreigner to be a member of the Académie française and one of the few authors to have been published in the Pléiade collection during his lifetime. . He is considered one of the major writers of the 20th century. His work, in particular his monumental Journal, but also several of his novels (Adrienne Mesurat, Léviathan, Épaves, Moïra...), has been hailed by the greatest and continues to be studied in France and abroad.

Thanks to the recognition of his first novel, and the complicity of Jacques de Lacretelle, he rubbed shoulders with the Parisian literary milieu, in particular Jacques Maritain and his wife Raïssa, François Mauriac, André Gide or Jean Cocteau, but also Jean Desbordes or Gabriel Marcel ( as evidenced by his integral Journal, in which many comments, sometimes severe, on the great figures of the literary milieu of the interwar period, are now published). 64539743
