Inspiration: 6 Camping Food Ideas

One of the best memories campers have about their holidays is the food. Sure, sometimes you need to be inventive, but over all you can’t beat a) fireside food and b) grilled/BBQ food. Here at Preloved we are fans of camping, and whatever the way you choose to camp, you can enjoy amazingly tasty grub. So, we have gathered some truly mouth-watering options to put into your Camping Food folder- we know you have one.

1. Veg, chicken, barbecue sauce. In foil. Grilled. Amazing.

2. Campfire cones. Take a selection of goodies and fill the cone with them. Some ideas are marshmallows, chocolate chips, banana or raspberries. Cover the top with some foil and place over the campfire for about 4 minutes. Enjoy.

3. Chop a croissant in half. Add ham and cheese. Wrap in foil. Let it warm up and voilà! The most amazing snack.

4. For something a little fancier, hollow out a (mostly) baked potato, add filling such as bacon, cheese, egg, salt and pepper. Finish baking the potato ensemble on the fire.

5. Cheesy Dutch Oven Potatoes. Potatoes, bacon, cheese, onions, salt and pepper. Slice and chop everything up and add the bacon to the Dutch oven. Scoop it out when crispy and layer the potatoes. Then the onion. Then the cheese and bacon. Repeat the layers if necessary. It takes longer to cook than the other recipes at about 45 minutes. But, just look at it!

6. Campfire Mushrooms. Have a selection; this recipe uses 400g crimini, 100g Portobello and 100g morels. Add olive oil, butter, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 small shallots, rosemary, lemon juice and a drizzle of red wine. Add olive oil and butter and heat until melted; add shallots, then garlic and rosemary. Stir and add the crimini mushrooms; let cook for about 5 minutes. Add the Portobello mushrooms; let cook for another 5. Add the wine and cook for a further 5 minutes. Stir in morels and lightly heat for 3 minutes. You’re done! Serve with… steak?!
