Advert Description

We are a small exotic rescue located in East Ayrshire, specialising in reptiles, amphibians, aquatics and birds, as well as inverts.

We have many years experience caring for all sorts of exotic species - we currently have space for around 40 residents at any one time.

We do not profit from our work, we never sell animals or ask for rehoming fees. The only criteria for adoptions to take place is successful completion of a thorough vetting process. Many animals have become permanent residents here at Odd Socks, due to disability, extra care requirements or simply because we feel they are thriving with us and that going through another relocation would not be in their best interests.

We are proponents of natural husbandry, with all our herptiles being afforded access to overhead heat and species appropriate UVB provision, at least minimum sized enclosures, daily interaction with their caretakers and a varied and nutritious diet which often includes our hand reared feeder insects. We are not open to the public, and all animals enjoy a relaxing and stress-free environment, access to veterinary care when required, and personalised care plans.

There are many reasons why people may choose to surrender an animal to a rescue centre, and we believe that when this choice is made in the animals best interests, that is a sign of a good keeper. We do not judge people for making a hard decision, and we always treat keepers with kindness and compassion.

If you would like to discuss surrender as an option, you can contact us for a chat and we hope to be able to help.

PLEASE NOTE - During the current cost of living crisis, we have been inundated with animals in need of care. We frequently reach capacity, which means that for periods of time we can no longer take in animals who are low risk in their current situation. We will always endeavour to help in an emergency, however, so please do get in touch even if we are at capacity.

Preloved Safety Advice:

  • Important: Before responding to any pet ad, be sure to read our Pet Buying Checklist and download your copy for free.
  • Photos: Photos on ads can be misleading. Sellers may temporarily group animals in confined spaces, purely to get a photo. These images don't represent an animal's natural habitat. Always visit the pet in their current home so you can see their housing for yourself.
  • Research: Always learn everything you can about a species before contacting a seller. This will give you a better idea of what to expect when you go to visit a seller, what questions to ask, and what else you might need to buy.
  • Payments: Always use a safe payment method that offers you some protection, such as PayPal or Credit Card.
  • Reporting Concerns: If you've seen an ad on Preloved the breaches our welfare listing guidelines, you can click on 'Report Advert' just below the ad and we'll investigate your concerns.
