What Camera Should I Buy?

When is World Photo Day?

On 19th August 2014, it is World Photo Day. World Photo Day originates from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic processes developed by Joseph Nicèphore Nièpce and Louis Daguerre in 1837. A few months later, on August 19, 1839, the French government purchased the patent and announced the invention as a gift “Free to the World”.

Every day we use photography in one way or another, and often without realising it. Whether it’s taking pictures on holiday and of loved ones, or looking at images online, in shop windows, or in magazines, photography is all around us.

Here at Preloved, we’re celebrating World Photo Day with our guide to which camera you should buy. From the old to new and whether you fancy digital or film, with thousands of nearly new, brand new and second hand cameras on the market, there will be one just for YOU!

Quick Camera Guide

Digital Compact Camera

nikon coolpix cameraUsed for holiday snaps, family gatherings, and birthday memories, it’s likely that most households have a standard digital camera, whether it’s solely a camera like this, or the kind build into your phone or tablet. Digital Compact Cameras are perfect for those looking for a lightweight, reliable camera with simple easy to follow settings for every purpose, and the digital memory cards makes uploading and storing your images on a PC easier than ever!

DSLR Camera

DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex, which means that due to the mirror and prism system inside the camera, you are able to look directly through the lens at the shot you are capturing. The majority of professional and some ametuer photographers use DSLR Cameras, as the advanced settings can be adjusted to create different effects and for different lighting conditions.

Film SLR Camera

A film SLR camera is similar to a DSLR, but instead of being digital, the camera is film. With the influx of all things digital, it’s not often that we enjoy the art of film photography anymore, however with SLR film cameras, you have the ability to change settings on your camera to create different effects and create beautiful photographs.

Bridge Camera

A bridge camera is the middle ground between a compact camera and a DSLR. This is for those who want slightly more advanced settings than your average compact camera, but aren’t necessarily using the camera to create high quality prints. Bridge cameras are perfect for great quality travel snaps and for those who want slightly more control over their camera settings.

Polaroid Instant Camera

Polaroid Cameras have always been classics. There is something exciting about taking a picture and waiting for it to develop in front of you! And with the digital age, it’s not often that we have actual physical photographs in our home anymore! Polaroids are a great way to display memories around the home, and they provide a great talking point with visitors!

We know that buying cameras can be expensive, but Preloved have tonnes of second hand cameras listed in each of these categories, so memory making doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg!
