Advert Description
Atlas, a 3.5-year-old male Lab/Pointer (born Aug-20), seeks a special home. We temporarily took him in Nov 23 to rehome him when our friends, his previous owners, had a baby.
A behaviorist diagnosed Atlas with high anxiety. He thrives in a calm, structured environment, best suited for a home without children and as the only dog, though introducing another dog later might be an option.
While he's great with other dogs, Atlas needs time to bond with his owner. Under stress, he may growl and snap, triggered by crate confinement (though he uses it voluntarily), sudden touches, and mild food guarding (only during dinner). Most of the time, he seeks companionship, walks, and relaxation.
Atlas is well-behaved, house-trained, non-destructive, and responds to commands with excellent recall. His leash walking has improved, though he can be excitable initially.
My partner and I work long hours, about 50 hours a week each, with shifting schedules and 3 large dogs of our own, with people in and out to check in causes atlas a lot of disruption. The behaviorist identified his main challenge as adapting to a chaotic environment and struggling to bond with us, resulting in continuous stress.
In the right home, emphasizing safety, bonding, predictability, and Atlas's needs, his stress levels will decrease, and the remaining anxiety can be worked on.
We're willing to share the behaviorist's report. Atlas needs patience, understanding, and someone to work with him at his pace. In return, you'll gain a highly obedient, loving, and caring companion.
If you can offer Atlas the stable, structured, and loving environment he needs, please reach out I'm happy to discuss.
