Songs About Animals

With more Pupdates than normal, extra special animal welfare content and asking our members to send in selfies with their pets, we’re celebrating National Pet Month in all sorts of ways! Today we’ve got an extra special treat for you in the form of an animal-inspired Spotify Playlist!

We’ve collated some of the best songs that have been inspired by animals: from Queen to The Beatles, there’s something on this eclectic playlist to suit everyone’s tastes! Here are some our favourites, and why they made their way on to the list.

Brendan Biondi – When You Come Home

This song is written by someone who truly knows what a privilege it is to be a dog owner. Brendan Biondi, a singer/songwriter from Maryland, wrote this song about the magical bond dog owners have with their four-legged friends. The song is about how your dog will ALWAYS be waiting to greet you with their tail wagging when you walk through the door.

The song is written from the point of view of Brendan’s dog, Calvin. The lyrics in the chorus are: I'll be here when you come home. And I will make all your troubles go away because I love you and I don't want to see you go.‘’

The video is equally as Adorable!

Norah Jones – Man of the hour

Norah Jones wrote this song about ‘scruffy, manly poodle’ called Ralph. She says that, although ‘you’ll never bring me flowers’…‘you’ll never make me cry’. You’ve got the right idea Norah!

Piano cat

CatCerto – The Piano Cat

On the list is another Nora, but perhaps not what you were expecting! Nora the Piano Cat was a rescue cat who has become an internet sensation due to her piano playing skills. She now even has her  own orchestra, and she is the soloist!

Crowded House – Lester

This song isn’t quite as cheery as the others on the list as, sadly, it’s about the singer’s dog being hit by a car: ‘and the screeching tyres never seemed to end’. Despite the tragedy at the beginning of the song, the powerful message behind the lyrics emphasises just how important Lester is, and how much of a special bond there is between dog and owner.

Ray Lamontagne – All the wild horses

This beautiful song is all about the freedom which wild horses experience. They are free to roam as they please without the demands of humans: ‘May no man’s touch ever tame you/ May no man’s reins ever chain you’. If you haven’t listened to Ray Lamontagne’s music before, we strongly suggest you give him a listen!
