6 Ideas For Jubilee Party Decorations

With the Platinum Jubilee falling over half term means that keeping your kids busy is much easier. Not only do you have extra holiday to spend with them. Booming street parties and events keep your diary full for the weekend. As we prepare to celebrate the Jubilee, store bought decorations start to become scarce. Which is why we have some suggestions for Jubilee decorations to make during half term. Offering you a sure fire way to make your house festive. Plus keeping your kids entertained in between all those finger sandwiches and cake.

6 Jubilee Decorations Ideas

First things first, you need to stock up on the red, white and blue paint and coloured paper. Not to mention cardboard, get asking those neighbours who love online shopping! Jubilee decorations don’t need to be perfect, we love a cottage core rustic look. They do need to consist of one thing though.

Bunting

Hung throughout the streets of the UK, and in every pub you walk into is BUNTING! Which means when making Jubilee decorations it’s a given that bunting is on the list. An added bonus is that it’s inexpensive to make at home and easy!

All you need is either some white paper, or left over scrap fabric, string at your desired bunting length, paint and glue. Decide if you are painting the full union jack flag or block colours, or even an abstract look. Cut your fabric or paper into diamond shapes, paint your design and then put the string in the middle of the unpainted side, fold and stick together. Keep adding flags until you are happy with your design. Then get hanging!

Jubilee Decorations For Cake!

Whether you have a classic Victoria sponge, pavlova or build your own Eton mess. You can get creative with the fruit, and make it look patriotic. Using a mixture of strawberries, blueberries and raspberry, you can create a union jack. When it comes to cakes just use a touch of buttercream for the glue, the pavlova already has the cream, but the Eton mess you can create a plate of fruit.

Make A Jubilee Party Hat

It’s not quite a party if you don’t have a party hat. But with the Jubilee decorations leaving the stores in the blink of an eye, getting your hands on some party hats seemed like mission impossible. Lucky for you making them is not. All you need is some A4 white card, stapler, elastic string, and paint. Get the A4 card and twist it into a cone shape and stapler it into shape. Then trim of the bottom so that you have a cone with a flat bum. Then similarly to the bunting decide how you would like to decorate them, or just let your kids go wild with the paint. Whilst drying get the elastic string and put it under your kids head to measure how long it should be. Once the hat is dry stapler the string and there you have festive jubilee decorations to wear!

Elevate Your Party Hat

Why stop there? We have an extra and easy DIY that can take your party hats to the next level. Get three streamers, ideally in red, white and blue. Twist them together and then stick them to the tip of the party hat. Trim them to the length you would like, but do try and keep them nice and long. This means when your kids are running through the crowds in the street party you’ll be able to see a trail of patriotic colour following them.

Make A Chariot Fit For A Queen

Make use of that cardboard that keeps on missing bin day and get cutting. This one will initially feel time consuming but once you have the shape and wheels cut out you can leave your kids to their own devices. Set them up painting either inside or outside depending on the weather and let them get creative. Who doesn’t want to ride in a multi-coloured chariot? I heard Queen Liz is all about the more colour the better! If you have enough cardboard try cutting out two sides and using some scrap material to stick them together. Using a thick piece and cutting out a head whole them attached both sides of the Chariot to the ends of the material. Then your kids can travel to the street party in style!

Cookie Decorations

Jubilee decorations don’t have to be exclusive to inedible items, and fruit décor. This decorating activity is great if you are throwing a party, either when celebrating the platinum jubilee or before. As it is easy to stock up for all the kids involved and you can let them be as creative as them want to be. All you have to do is make up some cookies or biscuits, and get a cookie cutter (or don’t and just do rectangles.) But, if you do get a cookie get a crown! Then set the table with red, white and blue icing, plus as many cake and biscuit toppings you can find in these colours. Then you have biscuits to put out for the street party! ENJOY!
