Preloved Planted 50,000 Trees to Combat Global Warming
So, a year has passed since Preloved pledged to do more to help combat global warming and support biodiversity. We help over 500,000 items avoid landfill every year, because Preloved understands the importance of taking action to protect the planet.
Firstly, during our annual National Second Hand event, Preloved pledged to plant a tree for every listing our members posted on our platform. By the end of the event, Preloved members had posted an incredible 41,837 listings, resulting in 41,837 new trees. In appreciation of our members' efforts, Preloved increased the number of trees we pledged to plant to a staggering 50,000. Preloved's next goal is to
Preloved Get Their Hands Dirty
To help them achieve our goal, Preloved teamed up with (more:trees), a company that allows individuals and businesses to purchase trees from their website, with an expert team taking care of the planting. We even got our hands dirty and headed out to the Lancashire countryside to help plant over 400 trees ourselves. Including Wild Cherry, Silver Birch, and Maple – all native to the UK.
Furthermore, planting trees is an important way to combat global warming. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. By storing carbon in their trunks, branches, and roots, and releasing oxygen back into the air. According to the World Economic Forum, planting 1.2 trillion trees could remove two-thirds of all the carbon emissions that humans have pumped into the atmosphere.
Helping To Combat Global Warming
Preloved remains dedicated to finding new ways to combat global warming and support biodiversity. Eventually, working together with our members and partners like (more:trees), we hope to make a positive impact on the planet. Ultimately, we want to inspire others to do the same.
A more:trees representative at the time also said "We applaud Preloved's dedication to keeping re-usable items out of landfill and believe it's a vital component in the fight for climate change. However, their tree planting initiative takes their achievements a step further. We welcome their pursuit to combat global warming, and their commitment to making a positive change".
