Seller's are either getting rid of unwanted gifts or sorting out last years stuff. When classified sites start to get busy it make it more difficult to stand out from the crowd. Which is why we wanted to help our members make more successful transactions. Sometimes the product itself can make the advert stand out but most of the time that isn't enough. So, because we want all of our buyers and sellers to be successful here are Preloved's top tips for buying and selling.
No Such Thing As A Perfect Ad
Whilst this holds some truth we think you can get pretty close. Adverts don't need to be perfect, sometimes if they look too manufactured that can put some people off, almost that idea of too good to be true. Which is why we have listed our top tips for our members to have an enjoyable and successful journey on Preloved.
Top Tips For Buying
We have already mentioned that January is a popular time to buy and sell on classified sites. So make lets make this benefit you. If you find that your space is missing something, now is the time to look.
Keep your search specific!
If you know what it is you want then make your search as specific as you can. Start by looking at our subcategories to see if any of these apply. Once you have found the subcategory that you want then make sure you keep an eye out for your ideal product.
Look for clear photos and concise details on the product (specifically what the item quality is like).
You want to buy from someone who is taking care to be honest in their advert. Meaning that they show it there are damages to the item, as this allows you to truly evaluate if it's right for you. You might be looking for an upcycling job. Or you might want something basically brand new, you've just got to go with what suits. Top tip - if you are looking for something that is new sometimes seller put that in their title so search 'new', when you are looking for your item.
Look for Yoti Verified accounts.
Linking back to the previous point, honesty in listing is a high priority. Which is why it is important that you look for items listed with a verified member. If they are Yoti verified this means that Preloved have confirmed their membership account details match their ID documents. This creates a great level of transparency for both buyers and sellers.
Request the seller enables Trustap.
Trustap is our escrow service, and again links back to managing your expectations. By using an escrow service you have the opportunity to raise a complaint is something is wrong when your item arrives. Just like it is important if they are verified it is also vital to keep the communication channel open with the seller, and by using Trustap it adds extra protection for you as a buyer.
Top Tips For Selling
Selling is a completely different ball game, but it is important to take note of the points made above to also appeal to your buyers; we will touch on them here too. When you are selling you really need to make a point to stand out, especially for those really unique pieces. Make people want your item even it's not what they were looking for.

Make sure that you one, your pictures are taken in good lighting. Two, they are clear and show all the details that you think are relevant. Then finally, three, ensure you have just the right amount. Start by taking images of the important angles, and any damage, then consider staging your piece or item to show how it can be integrated into someone else's home.
Share your listing on social media.
Regardless of how many followers you have share your link on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram and tag us. We love to support are members. But, it's not just exclusive to us - share your listing on local pages, or accounts to increase your chances of making a sale.
Remove your sold items
To help keep the site less saturated remove your sold items. This will help everyone on the site, but specifically will make it easier for the buyer to find your advert.

As we mentioned above it is important to have transparency with the buyer and the seller. As the seller this benefits you as it puts more faith in the buyer to make a purchase. Having these on your account can increase your chances of making many successful transactions. Also keep your eye out as there might be a new phase which could make finding these features on your account easier.
Keep in regular contact with your buyer.
