We have a HUGE announcement! We are proud to announce that we are banning the listing of dogs advertised as ‘Free To A Good Home’.
What does this mean?
It means that sellers will no longer be able to list dogs as free on Preloved, and must now advertise any dog with a £50 minimum fee.
But don’t worry, we understand that it can be a really hard time and so should a seller not want to profit from the sale, Preloved will allow sellers to select a charity to receive the payment instead.
Why have we done this?
Animal welfare is always at the forefront of what we do and this measure has been taken to protect the dogs being sold on our site.
Head of Preloved, Brad Nevinson, said: “Preloved believe that every dog’s life has value, and that nobody has the right to state otherwise. The
new measure has been put in place to deter those looking to rehome a dog for unscrupulous reasons.”
The change has been celebrated by the Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG). A PAAG spokespersons said:
“Although many pet owners simply cannot bear the thought of accepting money for their beloved family pet, when advertised for free or for a very low price people may be more inclined to buy pets impulsively, which can mean new owners aren’t ready or aware of all the commitments involved.
Preloved banning ‘free to a good home’ adverts is a small step in the right direction for animal welfare and could help prevent obtaining a pet on impulse.”
