Restoration Day – Our Top 10 Restorations
To celebrate this year's Restoration Day, we asked our Preloved members to show us their top restorations, and they were amazing! So, we put together our top 10 favourites for you all to enjoy.
1. Tony – 1957 MG Magnette
Tony’s MG restoration completely blew us away. Just look at it now - it’s so beautiful and shiny, we’d love to drive around in this. Congratulations Tony, well deserved!
2. Mark – Seventeenth Century Cottage
When Mark bought this delightful cottage, as you can see, it was near to collapsing. However, after 3 years of restoring and extending this Grade 2 building, Mark now has the gorgeous cottage that he calls home. In his own words, it was “a true labour of love” and it’s a love that will continue for generations, we hope!
3. Glyn – Roaring Red Tractor
After snapping up this Tractor in a scrap-like state, Glyn managed to restore the dilapidated vehicle to the red-hot beauty you can see now! We’d feel like quite the badass riding around the farm on this stunning tractor.
4. Peter – Windmill
It took many years for Peter to restore this Mill and we’re not surprised! He did it completely alone (other than a few of the more major bits like hoisting the sails). We’re in complete awe of the amount of work it must have taken to restore this gorgeous windmill.
5. Jim – Marshall Amp
Although this was not Jim’s only entry, we were in awe of his successful restoration of this Amp. Transforming an object that looks like it deserves to be on the scrap heap, to a fully functioning beauty truly shows the value not only in restoration but of the manual skills required for projects like these!
6. Michelle – 1875 Farmhouse sideboard
Originally advertised as firewood, Michelle restored this stunning cabinet to what she imagined would be its state. With the help of the seller, she also managed to trace its history all the way back to the dawn of its existence as a farmhouse sideboard! It now receives the attention it deserves in the dining room of her first home.
7. Vicki – M41 Walker Bulldog Military tank
Vicki entered this incredible tank on behalf of her partner, and we’re glad she did! Having sourced the tank in Belgium, Vicki’s partner painstakingly restored what was a heap of rust, to its original glory. He’s now the proud owner of, in Vicki’s words, “the only fully functioning, fully renovated and privately owned, M41 Walker Bulldog Tank in Europe.” Just Incredible.
8. Charmaine – Chicken Coop
Charmaine bought a huge chicken coop that had been unused for years and restored it in order to rehome some ex-battery chickens in the large home that they deserved. We admired not only her love of her chickens but of the incredible transformation of this awesome chicken coop.
9. Wendy – 1940s Marmet Pram
The transformation of a ramshackled pram into this stunning and adorable beauty! The perfect home for any fluffy little teddy!
10. Jessica and Kathryn – Lego
So, it’s not strictly a restoration piece but we thought that Kathryn and Jessica did an awesome job on this wee Lego house! Kudos, guys!
Don't forget to join in the Restoration Day fun and show us your restorations over on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and show us how you're celebrating!
