Green Friday: A Circular Economy

Sorting clothing out into a bag when clearing out space

The momentum of the holiday sales, Black Friday are in full swing. Whilst we can understand the desire to go and snag a deal, especially in the current economical climate. Here at Preloved we want to walk you through how you can also look to Green Friday as a way to support your Black Friday sales shopping. Taking into account that Second hand does not mean second best! Green Friday: A Circular Economy

What Is Green Friday

As the last few years has seen a rise in customers striving to be more conscious consumers, campaigns like Green Friday pave their way to be heard. The most essential change that we need to make is a shift in our mindset. Here at Preloved we think that is the most important part of going green this Friday.

The initiative of Green Friday isn’t all about boycotting shopping Black Friday. It is also about getting yourself away from your monitor, and considering what you actually need to consume. As we have mentioned, in the current climate it’s no surprise that people are looking to Black Friday to save some money, but it’s about taking the time to really think what do you need to buy.

Green Friday also looks at the after affects of Black Friday and it’s consumption. Meaning it gets a bad rap because many consumers buy for the sake of buying. As we have mentioned one of Preloved’s main visions is to keep items out of land fil so when you are looking for a deal on Black Friday consider the lifetime of your new product. Meaning that Green Friday is essentially about shopping greener and making greener choices. Thinking of not just what you can do in turn of shopping on Black Friday but also things you can be doing in your everyday life.

What To Consider When Buying On Black Friday

When you are making purchases this Black Friday you can still lean into the circular economy that Green Friday also stands for. Making choices in your purchases, or setting yourself up in the right way. To help to lower the impact of Black Friday and have a greener perspective, consider these things when buying:

  • Have a look through your cupboards/wardrobe and see what it is that you actually need. The main reason that Black Friday contributes to the climate change is by filling landfills. This can be from a number of reasons, but one that you can support with is by knowing what you should by buying.
  • Similarly when you can looking through your items, clear out the items you are looking to replace by selling them, or donating them instead of throwing them away.
  • Think about your Christmas list. Black Friday doesn’t have to all be able self consumption. It can be a great way to get that Christmas list down in price and in items.
  • Just like people say don’t go food shopping hungry, don’t go online shopping without anything in mind. That’s because before you know it you’ll have a basket full of items that you don’t need but the price has sold you. I know this one to be true because that’s exactly how I can be!
  • Consider the quality vs. cost. An item might have a crazy reduction but is that because the quality won’t last?!

How To Be Involved With Green Friday

By considering Greener ideas with your shopping habits is starting on the right path anyway. Then it’s all about making smarter decisions with a circular economy. Using platforms like our own. Sell those items that you don’t need any more. Get those special offers on the items you want to replace them with. Then when you are ready to purchase that item again, start the process all over again and sell it on Preloved.

One easy way to act greener this Green Friday is by making sure what you are buying isn’t a one wear purchase. By this I mean make sure you aren’t buying something just to throw away after one time. That is one of the main reasons we promote buying second hand, and that in the next ten years the classified market will be increasing by 185%. All because consumers are realising that they can get higher quality from second hand products. With that in mind either be one of those consumers or make sure you are researching the quality of the items you are looking to purchase.
