Things To Know For An Autumn Wedding

There are so many things to love about Autumn. The air is crisper, the sound of crunching leaves surrounds us, and everywhere as a beautiful orange tint. This plus so much more makes Autumn the perfect back drop for a wedding. If you’re dreaming of a cosy, intimate feeling, with hot beverages, golden make up and features this is the time for you. If so there are a few things you need to know about an Autumn wedding. Which when planning a wedding it’s much easily for you if we break it down for you. So sit back, grab a brew, light the fire and read our advice.

Weather

Autumn is one of the most vibrant and colourful seasons but that’s not to say it can’t have it’s short comings. With that in mind you need to make sure that the venue you pick is suitable for an inside and outside ceremony. This is because it most likely won’t be until the day of the wedding that you’ll know if you can have it inside or out. Therefore you want to make sure that you love the inside of the venue just as much as the outside option. If your outside venue has shelter, great! You will need to figure out getting to to the entrance though before the big day, even if it’s just a change of shoes and umbrella!

Lighting

Not only is the weather a consideration for a UK Autumn wedding, but so is the time of day. Of course this is always a factor no matter the time of year, but as the darker days come you need to make sure you are bringing your day forward to when suits you. Unless you want a night back drop, but with that you need to take into consideration the reception after. The only thing that is nice to make sure your photos are in the daylight so that you can have that natural backdrop.

Autumn Colours and Theme

When you are considering the pops of colour that will take place throughout your wedding and settings, you need to remember how spectacular the colours of Autumn are. Taking that into account you want to make sure that the colours you pick compliment the warm tones of your natural back drop. You can even bring these warm, earthy tones into your table and ceremony décor! Bringing part of nature inside with leaves, pinecones and candle lighting.

Nature

Using wildflowers can bump the cost up for a wedding so pick where you want them, and during the time of Autumn you might find them slightly dearer than summer. Again, picking colours that compliment the backdrop is very important, but you don’t want to over do the warm tones. Nature on the table settings is also a great way to bring an Autumnal setting, leaves and branches can be a cost effective and attractive way to add details to your weddings.

Autumn Themed Entertainment

I think you can get really creative here, especially if you have your wedding near Halloween, you can feed that into the theme. With a photo booth you can pick more spooky props than your typical top hat and moustache; or games like bobbing apples. As the night draws in you can have blankets about to get snug in the evening, with activities like roasting marshmallows, and hot drinks, think bailey hot chocolate or mulled wine!

Layers

If you are able to get the outside venue that you want make sure that you have layers for warmth or the options of a shrug to pop on. We don’t want a couple on their wedding day, blue lips and frostbite just isn’t the vibe!

Atmosphere

As the evening creeps in quicker then building an atmosphere is massively important. Candle lights can add a lot of romance to the air throughout both the ceremony and the reception. If you’re outside a firepit and hurricane lights, will not only add to the ambience but also keep your guests warm, so win win!

Seasonal Autumn Food

Why not lean into the great foods that Autumn has to offer and incorporate them into your wedding menu! Consider a soup for starters or adding some root veg to the main, a root veg purre with some meat is a great addition to any dish! Maybe you are more of a sweet tooth and want to bring it into your desserts you could have a warm pie, or crumble. There is something rustic about Autumn that makes you want to strip back to the basics. A naked cake on a wooden board and season foliage is such a beautiful way to lean into your season wedding.
