Sanctuary Spotlight: Hope Rescue

For almost 20 years, Wales’ Hope Rescue has been helping abandoned and stray dogs in need of a second chance. The registered charity operates an astonishing 51 rescue kennels, including an incredible indoor training centre. These facilities ensure the dogs in their care have the very best futures ahead of them.

The work of Hope Rescue is quite unique. As well as offering sanctuary to surrendered and abandoned dogs, they also support Local Authorities. They take in, and care for, dogs seized from horrific living conditions. The incredible work is a never ending task, and it’s becoming an increasingly expensive one.

Hope Rescue’s The Perfect Storm Appeal

The Perfect Storm appeal is the perfect name for the accumulative affects of recent changes. The pandemic, the huge rise in dog ownership, the cost-of-living crisis, the bubble of remote-work bursting…. The devastating consequences of these events have meant that many owners of well-loved pets can no longer cope financially and are making the heart-wrenching decision to surrender. And kennels up and down the country are at full capacity.

In a time when rescues are having to turn away animals in need, Hope Rescue have brought in temporary kennel spaces so that they can help as many dogs as possible. However, this comes at a huge financial cost, as well as increasing energy and fuel bills.

It’s also estimated that Hope’s vet bills alone have risen from £94,000 pre-pandemic, to an eye-watering £312,000 this year!

To weather this storm, they need the public’s help by way of donations, fundraising, and volunteers. If you’re able to help this incredible organisation, please, please do.

They also work closely with other rescues such as Blue Cross, Dogs Trust and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, to make sure they can help as many dogs in need as possible. Their standard adoption fee is £310 per dog, increasing to £400 for a puppy.

If you’re interested in registering your interest in adopting a dog from Hope Rescue, you can complete their Adoption Interest Form.
