Preloved Supports Plastic Free July

Hands holding a plastic free paper up in the forest

Plastic Free July is all about spreading resources and ideas around the world to look at how people can better their plastic use. Created by Plastic Free Solutions so far they have inspired 100+ million people in 190 countries to make positive changes. The goal is to make small changes through July and continue them on as habit. With the ultimate goal to keep plastic out of landfill and keep our world beautiful and growing. Which is why Preloved supports Plastic Free July.

Why Preloved Are Supporting Plastic Free July

Preloved pride ourselves on our visions and missions. With two of our major passions being reducing items going to landfill and increasing awareness around environmental issues. With the current rise in the temperatures it’s important that we look both inwards and outwards on what we can be doing to help save the planet.

What we are striving to do:

  • Promote environmental responsibility by encouraging less pre-packed goods use;
  • Save the oceans by preventing the current 13 million tonnes of plastic from ending up in there;
  • Reduce the amount of single plastic we use, which is currently at 50% of plastic use.

Some Facts & Figures That Affect You

Now it’s time for some of the hard hitting facts on why not only Preloved should support Plastic Free July, but you should too.

  • Plastics make up 80% of all marine debris studied.
  • 100,000 marine mammals and turtles die every year from ingesting plastic.
  • 5.25 trillion macro and microplastics are floating in the open ocean right now.
  • Every year there are 500 billion disposable plastic cups thrown away worldwide.
  • Over 99% of plastic is made using fossil fuels.
  • Fossil Fuels are the leader in air pollution, causing acid rain, water pollution, and wider damages to the ecosystem, and world.

How Micro-Plastic Have Increased

Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic that are 5 millimetres long, and are extremely harmful to the ocean and aquatic life. Some of these are formed from larger fragments of plastics, wear and tear and some are man made. Man made versions of these plastics come from beauty products such as face washes or tooth pastes.

As time has gone on these have naturally gotten into the environment, and they are now more prevalent than ever. We are now at the point where we are even finding them in our food and animals. As these plastics are so small it’s almost impossible to prevent them from getting into these, and that’s when they can start becoming dangerous. Due to their small size they can block our gastrointestinal tracks and organs causing us further health issues.

Whilst this isn’t the nicest information to hear, it’s important to note how serious it is that we reconsider our plastic use in order to prevent this cycle continuing! See below for how we can all lessen our plastic use!

What Small Solutions You Can Take On Board

When it comes to using less plastic there are many things that we can be doing day to day that might not seem like they are making a big impact; but when everyone gets on board they do.
